September 24, 2025 — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued warnings over Severe Tropical Storm Ompong (international name: Bualoi), which is expected to affect the CALABARZON region on Friday and Saturday. The storm is forecast to intensify into a typhoon as it nears the Philippine landmass, bringing strong winds and heavy rains.

Based on PAGASA's 5:00 PM Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 5, Ompong is moving west-northwest, with its trajectory pointing toward southern Luzon. Residents across CALABARZON, especially in vulnerable areas, are advised to prepare for possible flooding, landslides, and power interruptions.

In response to the incoming storm, the City Government of Sto. Tomas, Batangas, has announced a shift to distance learning in all schools within its jurisdiction to ensure the safety of students and educators. Following this directive, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Sto. Tomas campus will likewise implement distance learning (Asynchronous or Synchronous).

Local officials are urging residents to remain alert, secure essential supplies, and monitor further advisories from PAGASA and disaster risk management councils as Ompong continues to intensify.
